Chinmayi Sripaada seeks Hyderabad police chief help over online abuse and death threats

HYDERABAD: Playback singer and voice actress Chinmayi Sripaada has appealed to Hyderabad city police commissioner to help stop ongoing online abuse and threats against her and her family.
Going further into the details, the issue arose after Sripaada criticized the wearing of a mangalsutra, a necklace traditionally worn by married Hindu women. After her comments, she faced a lot of online abuse.
Through her official X(formerly Twitter) handle, she tagged V C Sajjanar, Hyderabad police commissioner known for his active social media presence, and wrote, “Respected @SajjanarVC Sir, Please take cognisance of this. I am sick and tired of this everyday abuse, and women deserve better in Telangana.”
She made it clear she plans to take legal action, saying, “I am happy to file a complaint, and even if this case takes 15 years, let the law take its course.” She also shared how serious the threats are, adding, “These men are saying my kids should die.”
Respected @SajjanarVC Sir
Please take cognisance of this. I am sick and tired of this everyday abuse and women deserve better in Telangana. If they dont like an opinion they can ignore and leave. I am happy to file a complaint and even if this case takes 15 years let law take its… https://t.co/l4In1xLlhx— Chinmayi Sripaada (@Chinmayi) November 5, 2025
Sripaada said the abuse was connected to the attackers’ cultural and religious identity. In her posts, she wrote, “Unfortunately, their parents, culture, and their sanatana dharma, I guess I see a Swastik in one of their images.”
She defended her decision to mention the identities of those abusing her, saying, “If you don’t want me to say their religion, they have to behave better.” In another post, she added, “What I am saying is not a mistake. It is what it is and a fact. These men hide behind culture and religion – Time to drag all of those identities on the road and wash them up.”
Police Acknowledge the Complaint
VC Sajjanar responded by directing the relevant cybercrime units to conduct the investigation. He quote-tweeted Sripaada’s post, tagging `@CyberCrimeshyd` and `@hydcitypolice` with the instruction, “pl check.” This marks the formal start of a police investigation into the harassment claims.
Chinmayi Sripaada has been an advocate for women’s rights and has frequently addressed issues of misogyny and abuse online. This incident highlights the nature of the criticism faced by women, particularly those in the public eye, who express opposing views on socio-cultural topics.
