Child Rights Protection Forum demands increase budget allocation for Education

Hyderabad: Child Rights protection forum alleging the lack of infrastructural facilities in state-run education institutions demanded for a rise in budgetary allocations. Further they demanded to allocate 15% of the budget to education and fulfill the assurance of the Congress party during the General assembly elections of 2023.
It has been nearly 15 years since the Right to Education Act came into effect, yet most schools have not provided the basic facilities required. Adequate funding must be allocated to meet the standards set by the Right to Education Act demands Child Rights protection forum secretary Ch Laxminarayana.
High schools in the state should be developed in line with the Kendriya Vidyalayas of the Central government. This includes improving educational standards by providing necessary materials and support to students lagging in academic performance. Funds should be allocated for the necessary staff and supervision of schools.
“There are around 850 Gurukulams managed by various departments in the state. Out of the 850 Gurukulams 415 operate in rented buildings.These Gurukulams and welfare hostels are in a very deplorable state and are not fit to run an education institution. Immediate funds should be allocated on a war footing to provide the necessary infrastructure for these buildings,” said Ch Laxminarayana.
Further throwing light on the conditions of Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalayas (KGBVs), Ch Laxminarayana said, “ There are 475 KGBVs in the state, with around 1,15,000 girls studying in them. Sufficient funds should be allocated to provide adequate facilities for both the infrastructure and the residential needs of the girls”.
The meeting was attended by G. Venugopal, State Convener, Child Rights Protection Forum, Telangana, G. Bhagya Lakshmi, State Convener, Mothers’ Association, Telangana, Ch. Lakshminarayana, Secretary, Child Rights Protection Forum and K. Sai Lakshmi, State Secretary, Mothers’ Association, Telangana.
Further they demand to improve the sanitation facilities,Transportation Facilities and provide quality Midday Meals. “All these are possible only if the government allocates sufficient funds. It is the responsibility of the government to protect the rights provided by the Constitution to children. Only by providing quality education with all necessary facilities and without compromising on resources can justice be done to children. Therefore, we demand the allocation of 15% of the budget to education,” said the Child Rights protection forum in an official statement.
