Chikkadpally residents struggle with contaminated water for over 6 months

Listen to Story

Hyderabad: Residents of Street No. 2, Amrutha Nilayam in Chikkadpally, Hyderabad, have been suffering from a contaminated water supply for over six months. The issue remains unresolved despite multiple complaints to the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB).

Speaking with the Hyderabad Mail, Srikanth Renikunta, a resident, expressed frustration, stating, “For more than six months, we have been receiving polluted water. Today, we received drainage water again. When we contacted officials, they said there was no approval for road cutting at RTC X Roads. When will the GHMC grant approval to HMWSSB to resolve this?”

Srikanth Renikunta further detailed the adverse effects of the contaminated water, “The water has been discolored, has a foul smell, and contains sediment, posing serious health risks. Our entire colony has been suffering for months, and we are forced to drink this water.”

He highlighted that new drinking water pipelines were being laid for a mere 100 meters in their lane, urging authorities to extend the work throughout the entire lane to benefit over 100 households. “We are receiving polluted water through the old line, and the water pressure is very low. The contamination is affecting our health, and we cannot afford to buy water regularly outside,” he added. https://x.com/SriRenikunta/status/1844587779239317884?s=08

Another resident reported that a complaint letter regarding the contaminated water was submitted to the relevant department on behalf of Suvir Nivas. After discussing the matter with the manager, they were assured that the problem would be addressed soon.

During a recent membership drive, the BJP Gandhinagar division president, along with senior leader Damodar and others, raised the issue of the polluted water supplied by HMWSSB. Politician Laxman Goud requested the completion of pending road work from the beginning of the street to the end of Boring Lane. Residents are hopeful that these issues will be resolved soon with Dr. Laxman’s intervention.
