Scr General Manager Orders Urgent Repairs After Ceiling Collapse At Cherlapally Railway Terminal

Hyderabad: Arun Kumar Jain, General Manager of South Central Railway (SCR), inspected the Cherlapally Railway Terminal on Sunday following the collapse of a portion of the false ceiling at the station’s portico during a sudden downpour and heavy winds on the evening of May 3, 2025.

He was accompanied by Neeraj Agrawal, Additional General Manager, SCR; Satya Prakash, Chief Administrative Officer of the Construction Wing; and Bhartesh Kumar Jain, Divisional Railway Manager, Secunderabad Division. Other senior technical officials were also present during the site visit.

Satya Prakash briefed the General Manager on the extent of the damage and the immediate steps being taken to prevent such incidents in the future.

Following the inspection, Arun Kumar Jain directed officials to urgently dismantle the remaining portions of the false ceiling at the entrance portico before reopening the area to ensure passenger safety. He instructed the Chief Administrative Officer to conduct a detailed investigation and take corrective and punitive action as required.

Railway staff had responded promptly to the incident, cordoning off the area and guiding passengers through alternate routes. No injuries were reported, as the area was unoccupied at the time of the collapse. The debris has since been cleared.

The affected section involved roofing sheets at the main entrance on the southern side, which gave way under intense weather conditions. Visuals of the damage were circulated on social media, showing the collapse was limited to a specific part of the structure.

The newly constructed terminal, part of a ₹413 crore project, was virtually inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in January and is intended to reduce congestion at other major stations in Hyderabad.

Jain explained that passenger safety remains the top priority and directed engineering officials to carry out necessary repairs accordingly.
