Charminar Eve-Teasing Convicts Get Three-Day Jail Term

HYDERABAD: Five men convicted in an eve-teasing case near Charminar have been sentenced after being found guilty of harassing women by touching them inappropriately.

Police recently arrested the accused after gathering evidence related to the incident. Officials said the accused were identified and taken into custody as part of efforts to curb harassment of women in public places.

Court imposes jail term and fine

The accused were produced before a court, which sentenced each of them to three days’ simple imprisonment and imposed a fine of ₹1,000 each.

Police said swift action in such cases is aimed at ensuring the safety of women and deterring offenders from engaging in similar acts.

Police warn against harassment and stalking

Officials reiterated that harassment, stalking and cyber harassment are punishable offences and warned that strict legal action would be taken against those involved in such activities.

Police urged women facing harassment to report incidents immediately so that timely action can be taken. Complaints can be lodged through emergency helpline numbers 100, 112 and 9490616555.

SHE Teams urge women to report offences

SHE Teams appealed to women and girls not to remain silent in the face of harassment and encouraged them to approach the police without fear. Officials said prompt reporting helps investigators act quickly and prevent repeat offences.

The police also appealed to citizens to cooperate in maintaining public safety and to report incidents of harassment whenever they witness them.
