Narendra Modi flags off Charlapalli–Thiruvananthapuram Amrit Bharat Express

NEW DELHI: Telangana will get its second Amrit Bharat Express with the launch of the Charlapalli–Thiruvananthapuram superfast service, aimed at long-distance non-AC travellers.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will flag off four Amrit Bharat Express trains from Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, on January 23, 2026. One of them will operate between Thiruvananthapuram and Charlapalli in Hyderabad.
Second Amrit Bharat train for Telangana
This will be the second Amrit Bharat Express for Telangana. An Amrit Bharat Express is already running between Charlapalli and Muzaffarpur in Bihar. The new service is designed to improve comfort and affordability on long-distance routes.
The train will run as 17041 every Tuesday, departing Charlapalli at 7.15 am and reaching Thiruvananthapuram at 2.45 pm on Wednesday. The return service, 17042, will leave Thiruvananthapuram at 5.30 pm on Wednesday and arrive at Charlapalli at 11.30 pm on Thursday.
Route and key halts
In Telangana, the train will stop at Nalgonda and Miryalaguda. In Andhra Pradesh, it will halt at Sattenapalle, Guntur, Tenali, Bapatla, Ongole, Nellore and Renigunta. In Tamil Nadu, stops include Tiruttani, Katpadi, Jolarpettai, Salem, Erode, Tiruppur and Coimbatore.
In Kerala, the train will halt at Palakkad, Thrissur, Aluva, Ernakulam Town, Kottayam, Changanassery, Thiruvalla, Chengannur, Mavelikkara, Kayamkulam, Karunagappally, Kollam and Varkala Sivagiri before terminating at Thiruvananthapuram.
Modern non-AC facilities for long journeys
The Amrit Bharat Express has been designed using indigenous technology to meet long-distance travel needs at affordable fares. It offers improved non-AC travel with foldable snack tables, mobile and bottle holders, radium floor strips for night visibility, comfortable seating and sleeping arrangements, and modern electro-pneumatic flushing toilets.
Other features include fire detection and suppression systems, facilities for persons with disabilities, high-speed charging points and a pantry car.
Along with this train, the Prime Minister will also flag off three other services on January 23, 2026 — Nagercoil–Mangaluru, Thiruvananthapuram–Tambaram, and Thrissur–Guruvayur.
Union minister G Kishan Reddy thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and railway minister Ashwini Vaishnaw for allocating another Amrit Bharat Express to Telangana.
A special inaugural run from Thiruvananthapuram to Charlapalli will operate as 02029 on Friday.
