Hyderabad’s new Railway Terminal: Charlapalli station set to open

Secunderabad: Union Minister for Coal and Mines and Secunderabad MP G Kishan Reddy announced the much-anticipated launch of Hyderabad’s new railway terminal at Charlapalli. Charlapalli Railway station is being developed to cater to the needs of eastern part of the city and reduce congestion.

Taking to X, Secunderabad MP G Kishan Reddy said,“Charlapalli Railway Station is all set for its grand launch!” He further added, “Being developed with a budget of Rs. 428 crores, the new satellite terminal will have facilities like a large circulating area with adequate parking facilities, 5 lifts and 5 escalators connecting all platforms, parcel booking facilities and all modern passenger amenities. The station can handle 25 pairs of trains and 10 new lines have been added with a total 19 line capacity.”

Charlapalli is strategically located on the eastern side of Hyderabad, an area experiencing rapid development, and near the Outer Ring Road. The station was identified for development as a terminal station to reduce congestion on other existing rail terminals in the twin city region and serve passengers on the eastern part of the city.

Three main terminals serve trains in the Hyderabad – Secunderabad region- Secunderabad, Hyderabad, and Kacheguda. To meet the city’s growing needs, Lingampalli on the western side was developed as another terminal. Charlapalli Railway Station is being developed as another terminal in the eastern part.

Developed at a cost of Rs. 428 crores

Union Minister Kishan Reddy further added, “The station’s transformation includes advanced facilities designed to accommodate increased footfall, ease congestion in Kacheguda, Hyderabad and Secunderabad stations, and improve overall efficiency.”

In an earlier official statement, South Central Railway (SCR) said, “The redeveloped station will have 4 additional high-level platforms, while the existing 5 platforms have been extended for full-length trains. Two new Foot Over Bridges – one 12 meters wide and another 6 meters wide – will facilitate inter-platform movement. All 9 platforms will have escalators and lifts, totaling 7 Lifts and 6 Escalators. It will also have coach maintenance facilities for starting trains from the station.”
