HYDERABAD: Rail passengers have a new rest option at Charlapalli railway station, with South Central Railway setting up sleeping pods to improve passenger convenience.

Japan-style capsule facility introduced for short stays

The railway zone has installed the sleeping pods at Charlapalli Railway Station, offering travellers a comfortable space to rest while waiting for trains. A video showcasing the facility was recently shared on social media.

Charges start at ₹200 for two hours

Designed on the lines of compact train berths, the pods come with locker facilities and enclosed sleeping space. Officials said the pricing has been kept affordable for middle-class passengers.

The tariff has been fixed at ₹200 for two hours, ₹400 for six hours, ₹800 for 12 hours and ₹1,200 for 24 hours.

Facility already present at select major stations

This type of capsule-style accommodation, first introduced in Japan, has since gained popularity worldwide. Railway authorities have already rolled out similar pods at a few major stations in the Telugu states, and Charlapalli is the latest addition.
