Secunderabad’s Chandralok Complex Fails Fire Safety Audit, Officials Issue Notices
HYDERABAD: Fire officials on Friday carried out a comprehensive fire safety inspection at Chandralok Complex in Secunderabad and found that the building did not meet even the minimum fire safety requirements.
Inspection exposes structural and electrical risks
Officials found the nearly 50-year-old building in a dilapidated condition. Several portions showed visible structural deterioration, and plaster had peeled off at multiple locations.
The inspection team also identified outdated and hazardous electrical wiring. Officials will inform the electricity department so it can take the necessary action.
Narrow staircases and poor access increase fire risk
The inspection revealed that the building does not have staircases wide enough for a safe emergency evacuation. Officials also found that the setback space around the structure was inadequate. This could obstruct the movement of fire engines and rescue teams during an emergency.
Fire department warns of legal action
The fire department directed the building management to fix all deficiencies within the stipulated time. Officials warned that failure to comply could lead to legal action under the relevant provisions of the law.
The department has already issued notices to the management, asking it to address the shortcomings to protect the lives and property of the public.
