Chandanagar police arrest chain-snatching accused, recover gold jewellery

HYDERABAD: Chandanagar police station on Tuesday arrested a man accused of targeting elderly women for daytime chain snatching, Assistant Commissioner of Police C H Y Srinivas Kumar said.

Two complaints, swift investigation

Police received two separate complaints of chain snatching in the Chandanagar limits and registered cases. Investigations were launched immediately with assistance from the Cyberabad Special Operations Team and the Central Crime Station.

Daytime snatching on Ramalayam Temple Road

On January 31 afternoon, the accused allegedly snatched a gold chain from a 72-year-old woman walking on Ramalayam Temple Road in BHEL Old MIG Colony and fled. Moments later, he reportedly stopped another 73-year-old woman nearby and fled after snatching her gold chain.

Accused identified, jewellery recovered

Using technical evidence, police identified the accused as D. Rajesh, 32, a resident of Gopinagar in Lingampally, Ranga Reddy district. He was taken into custody and the stolen gold ornaments were recovered.

The case was cracked under the supervision of Sherilingampally Zone Deputy Commissioner of Police C H Srinivasa, SOT Deputy Commissioner of Police Shobhan Kumar and Crimes Deputy Commissioner of Police Muthyam Reddy, with Sherilingampally Zone Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police Uday Reddy leading the operation. Senior officers commended the team for swift detection and recovery.
