Chand Garg couple donate ₹36 crore to BITS Hyderabad

HYDERABAD: Chand P. Garg and Manju Garg, alumni of BITS Pilani and now based in the United States, have donated ₹36 crore ($4 million) to the BITS Pilani Hyderabad.
Alumni support for global endowment goal
The donation comes as part of the institute’s effort to raise a $100 million endowment fund to strengthen academic standards across its campuses worldwide. The decision to mobilise the fund was taken by the BITS leadership about 18 months ago, following an appeal to alumni through its official website.
$34 million raised before latest contribution
Alumni based in India and abroad have so far contributed $34 million towards the target. The latest $4 million donation from the Garg couple was formally remitted to the Hyderabad campus on Wednesday.
Graduated in 1968, settled in the US
Chand Garg and Manju Garg completed their mechanical engineering degrees at BITS Pilani in 1968 before moving to the US, where they later settled. They are currently engaged in international trade and credit businesses.
BITS Pilani vice-chancellor V. Ram Gopal congratulated the couple for their significant contribution to the institution.
