Hit-and-run victim dies in Champapet, driver taken into custody

HYDERABAD:Â A 28-year-old man, critically injured in a hit-and-run incident at Green Park Colony in Champapet, died while undergoing treatment at Global Hospital, police said on Sunday.
According to Saidabad police, the incident occurred around 12.30 IST on Saturday when Deverashetty Sunil Kumar, a private employee, was returning to his residence at Sai Ram Colony on a motorcycle.
A speeding car rammed into his two-wheeler from behind and dragged him for nearly 50 to 70 metres before fleeing the spot, Saidabad police station house officer B. Chandra Mohan said.
Local residents rushed Sunil, the only son of Vijay Kumar, to a hospital, but he later succumbed to severe injuries.
Police formed three special teams to trace the vehicle and the driver. CCTV footage led investigators to identify the car bearing registration number TS07 JF 3899. Sources said the driver, Sai Charan, has been taken into custody and the vehicle seized.
Blood samples have been sent to the Forensic Science Laboratory to determine whether the driver was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accident.
Following Sunil’s death, police altered the case to include hit-and-run and other relevant sections of law. After postmortem, the body was handed over to family members, and last rites were performed on Sunday.
