Hyderabad: A chain snatching incident was caught on CCTV at Kukatpally Housing Board Colony early this morning, March 12, 2025. The incident took place around 6:00 a.m. when a woman, identified as Anjali, was drawing a rangoli in front of her house near Temple Bus Stop.

The suspect, posing as someone asking for water, followed Anjali into her house. Once entering inside, he snatched a two-and-a-half tola gold chain from her neck before fleeing the scene.

Anjali attempted to chase the suspect but was unable to catch up. Police are investigating the matter, and further details are awaited.

This incident is part of a growing trend of similar crimes in the city. On February 2, 2025, a woman was targeted in a chain snatching incident in Narsingi. The thief grabbed her chain while she was walking alone at Alkapuri Township Sports Park, causing her to fall and sustain injuries.

In December 2024, a thief snatched a 4-tola gold chain from a woman’s neck after ringing her doorbell at Haidarsha Kota Sun City, Narsingi. The crime was captured on CCTV.

In another incident, on December 6, 2024, a 54-year-old woman, Barma Naga Jyothi, was targeted while walking near Brundavan Gardens in Prashanth Nagar, under the Malkajgiri police station limits. Two men on a blue motorcycle approached her from behind, and the pillion rider forcibly snatched her gold chain, causing her to fall. The suspects quickly escaped on the motorcycle. Malkajgiri police have registered a case under Section 309(4) of the Indian Penal Code.

Authorities continue to investigate and work to prevent further chain snatching incidents in the city.
