What led to 22-year imprisonment in Chaderghat POCSO case

HYDERABAD: A city court on April 7, 2026 sentenced a 20-year-old man to 22 years of rigorous imprisonment in a Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act case registered at Chaderghat police station in 2021.
The XII Additional Sessions Judge at Nampally convicted the accused, identified as Sangam Manohar, a resident of Old Malakpet, under Section 5(L) read with Section 6 of the POCSO Act, 2012, after examining evidence presented during the trial.
Accused lured minor, recorded and circulated content
Police said the case was registered in September 2021 following a complaint that the accused had deceived a minor girl on the pretext of love and health issues. He allegedly subjected her to repeated sexual assault.
Investigators stated that he also recorded obscene videos and photographs of the victim, circulated them among relatives, and issued threats to the family.
Investigation, prosecution cited as key to conviction
The court imposed a fine of ₹5,000 on the accused. In default of payment, he will undergo six months of simple imprisonment. The court also recommended ₹5,00,000 as compensation for the victim.
Police officials said the conviction was secured due to coordinated efforts by the investigating officer, public prosecutors, and supporting staff, who presented evidence during the trial.
The case was investigated by P. Devendar, then Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (retired), while A. Ram Reddy and J. Rama Krishna appeared as public prosecutors.
