HYDERABAD: The Centre has extended the tenure of Telangana Chief Secretary K Ramakrishna Rao by three more months, allowing him to continue in office till June 30.

The extension comes after the senior bureaucrat had already been granted a seven-month relief in September 2025. That order had enabled him to remain in service till March 2026.

Record-length tenure extension for top state official
With the latest decision, Ramakrishna Rao’s overall extension period reaches 10 months, which is considered a rare instance for a serving state Chief Secretary.

Officials said the move ensures administrative continuity at the top level of the Telangana government. The extension follows established norms of service relaxation approved by the Centre.

Administrative continuity cited as key consideration
The Centre’s decision is expected to help maintain policy implementation and governance coordination in the state’s senior bureaucracy.

Extensions of tenure for Chief Secretaries are granted under specific provisions when required for administrative reasons. News writing norms emphasise clarity, brevity and factual accuracy in reporting such decisions.
