Fact Check

Central Government Did Not Ban Hijras Over Supreme Court PIL

Claim: The Central Government has issued orders banning hijras across the country for filing a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) in the Supreme Court.

Fact: A viral post claims that the Central Government has issued orders banning hijras across the country for filing a PIL in the Supreme Court. However, there is no truth in the claim. The Central Government has neither issued any such order nor made any announcement in this regard.

We searched Google using relevant keywords to check whether the Central Government had issued or amended any government order banning the activities of hijras. We found no evidence supporting the claim. The logo used in the viral post is related to Telangana. We also found media reports about Telangana Police responding to complaints involving transgender persons. Police officials advised people to dial 112 if anyone demanded money from them.

Telangana Director General of Police (DGP) C V Anand also responded to complaints about some transgender persons allegedly forcibly collecting money. He directed police officials to take strict action against those involved in threats, harassment and forced collections. He also called for special drives across the state to address such incidents. We further checked the Telangana government’s social media accounts and found no announcement regarding the alleged order.

We also checked the Telangana government’s government orders website for GO No. 69. The order issued in January 2026 relates to the expansion of the Hyderabad Outer Ring Road and contains no reference to transgender persons or the claim made in the viral post. Similar claims have gone viral in the past and were fact-checked by TeluguPost. Therefore, the viral claim that the Central Government banned hijras across the country for filing a PIL in the Supreme Court is false.
