Bus carrying Ayyappa devotees from Hyderabad overturns in Kottayam, kills driver

Hyderabad: A bus carrying Ayyappa Swamy devotees from Hyderabad overturned on a ghat road at Kanamala Attivalam in Kottayam, Kerala, leaving the driver dead and eight others injured on January 2, 2025. The incident occurred about 15 km from the Pamba River.

According to the reports, the bus, carrying 22 devotees from Upparguda in Madannapet, Hyderabad, was traveling from Kottayam to Sabarimala. The accident happened when the driver, identified as 51-year-old Raju, lost control of the vehicle while negotiating a curve. The bus crashed into three trees and overturned.

Driver Raju died at the scene as a result of his injuries. The injured devotees were taken to Kottayam Medical College Hospital for treatment, while local residents assisted in rushing them to the hospital.

Separate Accidents Claim Lives in Hyderabad and Ranga Reddy

In a separate incident, a student was killed, and another seriously injured after their motorcycle collided with a divider on the Kokapet Service Road in Ranga Reddy on December 28, 2024. The deceased, identified as Satwik, was traveling on the motorcycle when it crashed into the divider. Reports suggest overspeeding was the cause of the accident. Satwik died from the impact, while his companion sustained critical injuries and remains in hospital.

The tragic accident follows a similar incident on December 27, 2024. Two individuals, Raghu Babu and Akansh, residents of Borabanda, were killed when their motorcycle skidded off the road and crashed into a divider in the Madhapur police station limits. The accident is believed to have been caused by excessive speed and possibly alcohol use. One victim died at the scene, while the other succumbed to injuries on the way to the hospital.

Fatal Collision in Punjagutta

In another tragic incident on December 20, 2024, a 20-year-old student, Lokesh, died in a head-on collision with a private travel bus in Punjagutta. Lokesh, a B.Tech student, was traveling with a companion on a scooter when the bus collided with them. Lokesh died at the scene, and his companion sustained severe injuries. Witnesses alerted the police, and officers from the Punjagutta police station responded immediately. A case has been filed following a complaint from Lokesh’s family.
