BRS leader Praveen Kumar demands resignation of Union minister Bandi Sanjay Kumar

HYDERABAD: Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) leader Dr. R S Praveen Kumar on Sunday demanded the resignation of Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Bandi Sanjay Kumar. He alleged that the BJP leadership had adopted different standards while dealing with allegations against Union ministers.
Praveen Kumar Cites Earlier Ministerial Resignations
In an open message to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Praveen Kumar referred to the resignation of former Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over the NEET controversy and former Union Minister M J Akbar during the #MeToo movement. He argued that the BJP should apply the same standards to Bandi Sanjay Kumar.
Praveen Kumar referred to a Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act case involving the Union minister’s son. He alleged that a minor girl told a court that the minister threatened her when she sought justice after repeated sexual assault by his son. The allegations remain part of ongoing legal proceedings and have not been decided by any court.
Allegations Over Investigation
Praveen Kumar alleged that the minister’s son surrendered only after sustained protests by the BRS and youth organisations in Telangana. He said the accused remained in judicial custody for nearly 50 days before securing bail.
He also claimed that authorities registered a false “honey-trap” case against the complainant during the early stages of the investigation. He further alleged that the complainant faced an online campaign led by BJP IT cell members. These allegations have not been independently verified.
Calls for Accountability
Praveen Kumar criticised the silence of BJP leaders, including women ministers and party spokespersons, over the case. He also alleged that Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy protected the Union minister from legal consequences.
He urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to seek Bandi Sanjay Kumar’s resignation. He also asked the minister to appear before the Station House Officer of Pet Basheerabad police station in connection with the matter.
Praveen Kumar appealed to civil society organisations to continue raising the issue, saying it deserved national attention.
No Response from Bandi Sanjay Kumar
Bandi Sanjay Kumar has not publicly responded to Praveen Kumar’s latest statement. The allegations cited by the BRS leader remain under investigation and are subject to judicial proceedings.
