MLA Padi Kaushik Reddy files a complaint

Hyderabad: A day after the Karimnagar court released Bharat Rashtra Samithi’s (BRS) Huzurabad MLA Padi Kaushik Reddy on bail for misbehaving with Jagtial MLA Dr Sanjay Kumar, the Hyderabad police on Wednesday served notice to him in connection with a case registered against him last month for threatening a police officer.

Kaushik Reddy has been asked to appear before Masab Tank police on Thursday. The BRS leader told the police that he is expected to appear before a court in Karimnagar tomorrow. He sought time till January 17.

Huzurabad MLA was booked and arrested on December 5 for allegedly obstructing police at Banjara Hills, threatening and abusing them. Subsequently, he was granted bail. Following a complaint by Circle Inspector/Station House Officer Raghavendra, a case was registered against Kaushik Reddy and his supporters. In his complaint, the police official alleged that the MLA from Huzurabad threatened him and tried to obstruct him in the discharge of his duties. The BRS MLA and his followers have been charged with offences of unlawful assembly, using force to obstruct the duties of a public servant, criminal intimidation, wrongful restraint, public nuisance and rioting.

The ruckus occurred when the BRS MLA went to Banjara Hills Police Station to file a formal complaint alleging that his personal phone conversations were being tapped. In his complaint, Kaushik Reddy raised concerns regarding his personal safety and accused certain individuals of being involved in the unauthorised phone tapping.

The police officer was leaving the station as the Huzurabad legislator arrived at the station. The BRS leader insisted that he should leave only after taking his complaint. The SHO told him that he was stepping out for some urgent work and would file his complaint after his return. This enraged the BRS leader who then had a heated argument with the police officer and told him it is his duty to take the complaint. He had allegedly threatened the police officer.

Later, the followers of Kaushik Reddy stopped the police vehicle and demanded the officer to take the complaint.
