BRS leaders put under house arrest ahead of hospital visit

Hyderabad: Three senior BRS leaders were put under house arrest by the Hyderabad police ahead of their planned visit to investigate maternal and infant deaths at Gandhi Hospital on Monday.

Following the media reports of increasing infant mortality rate at the state-run hospital, the Opposition BRS formed a three-member fact-finding team comprising former Health minister Dr. Rajaiah, former MLA Dr Methuku Anand and sitting MLA Dr Sanjay to investigate the deteriorating medical services in Telangana.

The police team house arrested the fact-finding team members as they were about to leave for the hospital visit. The BRS leaders said they don’t understand why the police are stopping them from visiting the hospital as it was not a political visit but to collect facts, analyze them and submit a report to the state government. They wondered whether the state government was stopping them from uncovering the truth about the maternal and infant deaths at the hospital.

Meanwhile, BRS working president KT Rama Rao strongly reacted to the house arrest of his party colleagues. Terming the action against the party’s fact-finding team members as a “blatant attack on transparency and accountability”, he said, “What are they hiding from the people of Telangana? Why this desperate attempt to silence truth-seekers investigating rising infant & maternal deaths and negligence in Gandhi Hospital?”

Taking to X (formerly Twitter), KTR asked if the Revanth Reddy-led Congress government was afraid of being held accountable “for their catastrophic failure in healthcare?”

BRS leader said the people of the state need to know the truth and regardless of what the Chief Minister Revanth Reddy and Congress think, “the truth cannot be bulldozed or buried” and BRS will not rest or stop until the reality is exposed.
