BRS Delegation to Visit Musi River Affected Areas Today

Hyderabad: A political slugfest has broken out over the Telangana government’s decision to clear encroachments along the Musi river in Hyderabad, Rangaareddy and Medchal-Malkajgiri districts.

A Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) delegation is visiting the affected areas in the Musi river catchment areas which are identified and marked for demolition by the Revenue officials. The delegation comprises senior BRS leader and former minister T Harish Rao, senior party leaders Mohammed Mahmood Ali, Sabitha Indra Reddy, party MLAs and MLCs and GHMC Corporators.

The BRS leaders gathered at party headquarter Telangana Bhavan before visiting the affected areas Hydershakote and nearby localities to interact with the residents whose housing units are surveyed and marked for demolition. The Opposition leaders may likely prevent the officials from forcibly evicting the residents from their houses.

On Saturday, the affected residents of Chaderghat area visited Telangana Bhavan and submitted their representation to the former MP and senior BRS leader Ravula Chandrasekhar. The Muslim women told the party leader that on the pretext of the Musi riverfront project, the Revanth Reddy government is demolishing their houses.

Earlier, Harish Rao remarked the State government’s ambitious project would displace thousands of families. He said affected residents have been living there in pucca houses for several years and requested the government to reconsider its plan.

Notably, the government officials have identified 2,116 houses on the riverbed of Musi while 7,850 more dwellings in its buffer zone. Principal secretary of municipal administration and urban development Dana Kishore, who is also the managing director of Musi Riverfront Development Corporation (MRDC) asserted that affected residents would be provided double bedroom houses and employment opportunities.

During the last few days, the occupants of the encroached lands were seen protesting and obstructing the officials of MRDC and revenue departments of Hyderabad, Rangareddy and Medchal-Malkajgiri districts from carrying out their duties.
