Don’t mislead nation over crop loan waiver: BRS to Revanth Reddy

Hyderabad: Revanth Reddy-led Congress government has come under fire from both the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) over the issue of crop loan waiver scheme.
Targeting Revanth Reddy, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said the Congress government has allegedly deceived the Telangana farmers as they are still waiting for the loan waiver. He also said that the lives of farmers have become miserable under the Congress government. Modi made these remarks during a rally in Maharashtra’s Washim where he launched various development programmes.
BRS writes to PM Modi
Meanwhile, the Opposition BRS has also raised concerns over the implementation of the crop loan waiver scheme. In a letter to the PM Narendra Modi, BRS leader T Harish Rao alleged that the Telangana government is misleading the nation claiming it has waived off crop loans up to Rs. 2 lakhs.
He pointed out that the Congress party initially promised to waive off the crop loan by December 9, 2023 soon after the formation of government in the state. As the party failed to meet the promised deadline, it again extended it to August 15, 2024.
Referencing the State Bank of India (SBI) report, BRS leader said that the Telangana government’s claim that it has completed the crop loan waiver up to Rs. 2 lakhs is “totally false” as the crop loans of only 50 percent of eligible farmers have been written off while many are still waiting for th waiver.
He also added that the chief minister Revanth Reddy had promised that the government would waive off the loan of farmers exceeding Rs. 2 lakh if they repay the extra amount on the given loan. Many farmers have paid the exceeding loan amount and are still awaiting for the crop loan waiver. The BRS leader further pointed out the 31 conditions set for the crop loan waiver scheme have left many ineligible for the waiver. He urged the chief minister to fulfill his promise made to the farmers of the state and later announce the successful implementation of the welfare scheme to the nation.
