BRS attacks Congress over MANUU land in Telangana

HYDERABAD: The Bharat Rashtra Samithi on Monday accused the Congress government in Telangana of undermining higher education by allegedly attempting to take over 50 acres of land belonging to Maulana Azad National Urdu University.
Alleged attempt to divert university land
In a statement addressed to Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, the BRS said the land was earmarked for academic blocks, hostels and future courses, and warned that any move to repurpose it would damage the prospects of thousands of students, particularly from minority communities.
The party alleged that the move followed what it described as the “disgrace at the University of Hyderabad”, where it accused the state government of destroying a green zone and wildlife, drawing national criticism.
Charge of real estate-driven decisions
Questioning the government’s intent, the BRS asked whether it was justified to deprive universities of land required for emerging disciplines while, it claimed, favouring real estate interests linked to the chief minister.
“A responsible government should strengthen institutions of learning, not weaken them,” the statement said.
BRS signals legal and political fight
The party said it would oppose the move both on the ground and in the courts, and asserted that it would stand with students of Maulana Azad National Urdu University.
“Education is not a pawn. It is the nation’s future,” the statement added.
