BRS seeks FIR against Rohin Reddy, N Sumanth under new criminal laws

HYDERABAD: Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) leaders have lodged a formal complaint with Jubilee Hills police, seeking registration of a case against Congress leader Rohin Reddy and former Officer on Special Duty (OSD) N Sumanth. The party alleged that the two were involved in acts of intimidation and corruption, including threatening representatives of Deccan Cements Pvt Ltd at gunpoint.
In a letter dated October 24, 2025, addressed to the Station House Officer, Jubilee Hills police station, BRS representatives cited the statements made by Konda Sushmita Patel, daughter of Telangana Minister Konda Surekha, on October 15. Patel had publicly alleged that Reddy and Sumanth engaged in extortion and intimidation. She further claimed that the firearm allegedly used may have been supplied by Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy, noting that Rohin Reddy resides near the CM’s residence.
Allegations of illegal police action
The complaint also questioned the legality of a Task Force operation conducted the same night at the minister’s Jubilee Hills residence. BRS said the search was carried out “without any warrant or prior notice” and amounted to misuse of police powers.
The party cited multiple news reports and video clips of Patel’s remarks circulated on Telangana Today, India Today, The News Minute, Sakshi TV, and Kaloji TV, claiming the revelations were of “public importance and credible nature”.
BRS invokes BNS, BNSS sections
The BRS complaint requested that an FIR be registered under Sections 351 (criminal intimidation using a deadly weapon), 193 (fabrication or suppression of evidence), and 7 (public servant engaging in corrupt acts) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, read with Section 173 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), 2023.
The complainants argued that the police’s failure to register a case despite “grave and cognisable allegations” violated the Supreme Court’s ruling in Lalita Kumari vs Government of Uttar Pradesh (2014), which mandates immediate FIR registration upon receipt of credible information.
The complaint was signed by BRS leaders N Naveen Kumar Reddy (MLC), G Jaipal Yadav (ex-MLA), K Kishore Goud (former BC Commission member), and Nagesh Mudhiraj.
