Broken Drain Grill At Tolichowki Sparks Safety Concerns Among Citizens

Hyderabad: Residents of Tolichowki have raised concerns over a broken drain grill near Rumaan Hotel, which is causing serious inconvenience to traffic and posing safety risks to pedestrians. The damaged grill lies on a busy stretch used by RTC buses and sees regular vehicular and pedestrian movement. Locals fear that during rain or low visibility, unsuspecting pedestrians could get injured.

The issue was highlighted on social media platform X (formerly Twitter) by a user, Riyaz (@Riyazuddin555), who tagged the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) and wrote, “Request @GHMCOnline to kindly fix the broken drain grill at Tolichowki, near Rumaan Hotel. It is causing huge inconvenience to traffic and vehicle movement. RTC buses ply from this road.” He also tagged local officials and representatives.

Responding to the post, the GHMC replied, “Dear Citizen, the issue has been brought to the notice of the @Dc13K @karwan_EE.”

Other citizens also expressed concern. A user identifying as the Bicycle Mayor of Hyderabad (@sselvan) commented, “Also, any pedestrian might fall in anytime.”

Another resident, Imran, pointed out broader infrastructure issues in the old city, posting, “Roads in old city still (Talab Katta, Yakutpura, Chanchalguda, Santoshnagar, most of the roads in @aimim_yakutpura) not repaired since last election. Is there any plan for new roads or should the public suffer as usual?”

The account @roadsafetyzone added, “Everywhere in Hyderabad same situation for 30 years. Public money in crores spent for nothing.”

Ismail Ibrahim (@IsmailSwim) also raised concerns about nearby areas, saying, “Also the 7 Tombs Road from Tolichowki is bad. Where is the MLA/MP? Since months, only a couple of meters of earth have been moved.”

Residents facing issues with water and sewerage problems in Hyderabad can contact HMWSSB through its customer service numbers at 155313 or 040-23300114 or via its social media platforms on X (formerly Twitter).

Additionally, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) can be contacted for related concerns through their official handle on X (@GHMCOnline).

The Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB) was established on November 1, 1989, and is responsible for managing the city’s water supply and sewerage services. The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) oversees Hyderabad, the capital and largest city of the Indian state of Telangana. It is one of the largest municipal corporations in India, serving a population of 7.9 million people across an area of 650 square kilometers.
