Why Rajinikanth’s Vettaiyan called for Boycott in Telugu? Kanguva next?

Hyderabad: A new trend has picked up on the X platform, a microblogging platform previously known as Twitter. This time the trending hashtag was calling for a boycott of Rajinikanth starrer Vettaiyan in Telugu. Why? ‘Imposition of Tamil’, argues the netizens.
Vettaiyan is preparing for a silver screen release this Friday, on October 10, 2024 all over. The makers have released the film title as Vettaiyan, The Hunter in all languages. It’s one of the most anticipated movies in recent times coming from the Tamil Film industry, under the direction of T J Gnanavel. The songs and the teaser released by the makers have increased the expectations on the film and have garnered good response from the audience.
Sharing the post, an X user said, “Dear @RedGiantMovies_ and @LycaProductions, Please tell us the meaning of ‘Vettaiyan’ in Telugu! You are releasing the Telugu version with a Tamil title. Isn’t this an imposition of Tamil on us? We know how your industry and audience would react if a Hindi film’s dubbed version was released in Tamil Nadu with a Hindi title. Though I’m an ardent fan of Superstar @rajinikanth, I will not watch this film for insulting the Telugu people. Apologize to the telugu audience and change the title, or else we’ll Boycott the film!”
Meanwhile, some other users have also raised similar questions and asked why the film does not have a Telugu title and pointed out that this is not the first instance. Further, some users have also suggested a Title, Vetagadu for the Rajinikanth Starrer. Along with #BoycottVettaiyanInTelugu, other hashtags such as #StopTamilImposition hashtag has also been picked up.

We should stop watching Tamil movies in theatres for at least some months.
Tamil film makers and producers are not even respecting Telugu audience, forget about dubbed songs, not even proper Telugu title. Maanaadu, Raayan, Vettaiyan and manyyyyy. Forget about simbu and.. (1/2)— __lohith__ (@RealLohithReddy) September 26, 2024
Suriya’s Kanguva, next in line?
Kanguva is another upcoming film coming from the Tamil film industry. The period drama stars Suriya in the lead role and this film is also under the fire for using a Tamil title.
