Boy goes missing, found dead in water pit in Vattinagulapally

Hyderabad: In a tragic incident in Vattinagulapally, Ranga Reddy District, a young boy who went missing yesterday was found dead in a water pit on Monday, September 9, 2024. The victim has been identified as Srinivas, a Class 3 student.
According to the reports, Srinivas fell into a water pit where water was stored while playing outside yesterday afternoon. Unable to swim, the child drowned in the pit.
After Srinivas was reported missing, his parents searched extensively before approaching the police. Following their complaint to the police, a massive search operation was launched.
This morning, Srinivas’s body was discovered in a large pit dug for water extraction. The discovery of his body left the family devastated.
Community blames water mafia & official negligence
Local residents and family members have alleged that the incident is linked to illegal water mining activities in the area. They claim that a water mafia has been involved in unauthorised water extraction and distribution through tankers, often neglecting safety protocols. Revenue officials allegedly demolished some of these water pits with a JCB last month, but the illegal activities have continued.
The parents and community are accusing the authorities of negligence and holding them responsible for the boy’s death due to their failure to address these illegal practices.
