In his tweet, Kiran highlighted the ongoing issue of dog bites in the area, stating, “Respected @CommissionrGHMC, frequent dog bites at Raghavendra Nagar Colony, Nacharam Division. Requesting @GHMCOnline to kindly protect citizens in the area.”

The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) promptly acknowledged Kiran’s tweet and dispatched a veterinary team to address the situation.

Following the report, the Veterinary Officer for Circles 3, 4, and 5, LBNZ GHMC (@GHMCVOLBNZ), responded, “Dear citizen, we have attended to your grievance. We captured the stray dog that bit and transported it to the animal care center in Fathullaguda for further observation. We will also ensure strict vigilance in the area in coordination with local residents.”

Due to a rise in dog bite incidents and fatalities, the GHMC has urged residents to report dog infestations in their neighbourhoods. The civic body has pledged to send teams to capture and sterilize stray dogs upon receiving complaints.

In a recent tweet on July 24, 2024, GHMC authorities encouraged citizens to call 040-21111111 or 040-232253975 for immediate assistance, assuring that the corporation would resolve the issue with a single call.

However, some residents have raised concerns about the effectiveness of these measures. They questioned the practice of releasing sterilized dogs back into the same neighbourhoods, highlighting the potential for recurring problems. Additionally, they expressed doubts about the long-term impact of sterilization on the overall dog population.
