Bowenpally police detain four minors for vandalising Mahatma Gandhi statue
Bowenpally: Bowenpally police have taken four minors into custody for their involvement in the vandalism of a statue of Mahatma Gandhi.
B. Lakshmi Narayana Reddy, Bowenpally Station House Officer (SHO) told Hyderabad Mail that the minors are currently being interrogated and receiving counselling, as no remand applies in this case.
The incident occurred during the Diwali festival when the suspects allegedly used firecrackers to desecrate the statue. A video circulating on social media shows the youths placing firecrackers in the mouth of the statue’s bust and lighting them. This act has sparked outrage among netizens, many of whom condemned the behaviour and urged respect for the legacy of the Father of the Nation. Users have also tagged the police in their posts, calling for action against the perpetrators.
BRS leader Kirshank Manne shared the viral video on his X handle, urging Hyderabad Police Commissioner CV Anand to take suo motu action regarding the incident. He expressed concern that it appears to have become a trend to insult the Father of the Nation.
