Bondi Beach terror accused Sajid Akram made six visits to India, last in 2022

HYDERABAD: Sajid Akram, one of the accused in the Bondi Beach terror attack in Australia, last visited Hyderabad in 2022, which investigators said was his sixth and final trip to India.
Sources in Telangana police said Akram, aged around 50, had been travelling to India intermittently over the years and did not return after his 2022 visit.
Akram has family roots in Hyderabad. His father died in 2009, while his mother and brother continue to live in Toli Chowki. Investigators said Akram had differences with his brother over property matters and had explored the possibility of settling in Hyderabad during one of his visits.
Family denies links, awareness of radicalisation
After the attack, Akram’s brother told the media that the family had no connection with him and was unaware of any radical mindset or extremist views. He said the family had not been in touch with Akram for the past few years.
Police sources said the family had publicly distanced itself from Akram following the incident.
Graduated from Hyderabad college
As part of his background, investigators said Akram completed his graduation from Anwar-ul-Uloom College in Hyderabad. He later moved abroad and continued to visit India periodically before his final trip in 2022, sources added.
