BJP Sounds Alarm Over Alleged Attacks, Seeks Action and CCTV Evidence
HYDERABAD: BJP leaders have approached Telangana Director General of Police seeking a comprehensive probe into alleged attacks on the party’s state office in Hyderabad, its Nalgonda district office and the residence of district president Nagam Varshit Reddy.
The delegation included BJP Legislature Party deputy floor leader Payal Shanker, state vice-president Dr Kalyan Naik, state general secretaries Dr Ravi Kumar Tutupalli and Koppu Basha, state spokespersons Taduri Srinivas, Abhishek Jagini and Ashok Mustapure, and senior leader Gudur Narayana Reddy.
The leaders submitted a complaint to the DGP and alleged that Congress workers carried out the attacks. The allegations have not been independently established.
The BJP said political differences were part of democracy but alleged that attacks on party offices, property damage, assault and defacing portraits were unacceptable.
BJP alleges attacks at three locations
Regarding the BJP state office in Hyderabad, the complaint alleged that some people attacked the premises under the aegis of Youth Congress.
The BJP alleged that followers of Telangana Youth Congress president Jakkidi Shiva Charan Reddy and Burra Srinivas Reddy took part in the incident. It asked police to identify and take action against those responsible.
The complaint also raised an allegation involving a portrait of Sant Ravidas. The BJP said unidentified persons smeared a black substance on the portrait, which it claimed hurt the sentiments of the Dalit community.
The leaders sought a separate probe into the incident. They also asked police to invoke provisions of the Scheduled Castes and the Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act if the investigation establishes an offence.
In Nalgonda, the BJP alleged that around 50 people attacked its district office with sticks, stones and other objects.
The complaint sought an impartial probe into the alleged role of MLC Shankar Naik and others who were present at the spot.
The BJP also alleged that around 50 people attacked Varshit Reddy’s residence. The attackers allegedly damaged a television, refrigerator and other household items.
BJP seeks CCTV footage and evidence
The BJP further alleged that Varshit Reddy’s mother suffered injuries during the incident. The leaders sought a separate investigation into the allegation and action against anyone found responsible.
The complaint also sought a probe into the alleged involvement of people linked to the Komatireddy group and other political leaders.
The BJP leaders asked police to preserve CCTV footage, videos, photographs and other evidence from all three locations.
They also sought the identification of everyone involved and registration of cases under the applicable laws.
The delegation requested adequate security for BJP offices, leaders and party workers. It urged the police to ensure equal treatment under the law and conduct the investigation without political pressure.
Recent reports have separately stated that Varshit Reddy’s residence was allegedly vandalised in Nalgonda amid rising tensions between BJP and Congress workers.
