BITS Hyderabad startup sets 498kmph drone record
Hyderabad : A defence technology startup incubated at the Birla Institute of Technology and Science (BITS) Pilani Hyderabad campus has set a new record with its Aahuti MK-2 multirotor interceptor drone, which reached a speed of 498 kmph.
Developed by Apollian Dynamics, the drone has entered the India Book of Records. The company said this is the first time a multirotor has recorded a speed of this level in South Asia.
The Aahuti MK-2 was developed to intercept low-cost Shahed-type drones and loitering munitions deployed by adversaries in modern warfare.
The company’s earlier Aahuti drone achieved a speed of about 300 kmph in 2025. Apollian Dynamics increased the speed by 66% within a year to develop the Aahuti MK-2.
Team behind the interceptor
Apollian Dynamics was founded by Jayant Khatri and Saurya Choudhary.
Aman Virani (Shady), Manas Vichare and Ishan Suri played key roles in developing the Aahuti MK-2. Virani, a known drone pilot, was closely involved in flight testing and the development process.
Apollian Dynamics, established in 2025, is incubated at the BITS Pilani Hyderabad campus. The startup is developing indigenous unmanned systems for the requirements of the Indian armed forces and has already supplied some systems to the Indian Army.
