Telangana Alerts District Collectors Amid Rising Bird Flu Cases

Hyderabad: Following the rise in Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (HPAI) in poultry, the Telangana government alerted district collectors to curb the spread of Influenza and strengthen Biosecurity Measures on Tuesday.

In a top property order issued by Animal Husbandry, Dairy Development and Fisheries Development Special Chief Secretary Savyasachi Ghosh, the order alerted all District Collectors in the State to the Department of Animal Husbandry and Dairying, Ministry of FAHD, Government of India, regarding the highly pathogenic Avian Influenza (HPAI) reported in other States and Government of India. Further, it requested the States to strengthen the Biosecurity Measures to prevent the spread of HPAI and protect the poultry population.

District Collectors are requested to raise awareness among poultry farmers, stakeholders, and the public about HPAI prevention, the critical role of biosecurity measures, preventing transportation of sick birds, and proper disposal of dead birds.

“They should be informed to bring any unusual deaths of poultry to the notice of staff in Veterinary and Animal Husbandry Department. District level meeting may be convened with Forest Department, Police Department, Health Department and Veterinary and Animal Husbandry Department to discuss measures to be adopted to prevent the spread of the disease from other States into Telangana, under intimation to Government,” read the order.
