Improvement notice issued to BigBasket warehouse in Kompally after food safety inspection

HYDERABAD: Food safety officials have issued an Improvement Notice to the BigBasket warehouse operated by Innovative Retail Concepts Pvt. Ltd. at Jaya Bheri, Kompally, following a routine inspection that identified several hygiene and food safety deficiencies.
The inspection assessed compliance with food safety and hygiene standards. Officials noted that the warehouse displayed its Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) licence, maintained pest control records and followed the First In, First Out (FIFO) inventory management system.
Food handlers lacked protective gear and records
Inspectors, however, found that food handlers were not wearing gloves or hair nets while handling food. Non-food articles were stored alongside food items at certain locations, and medical fitness records of food handlers were unavailable.
Officials also observed that the onion and ginger-garlic storage area was untidy.
Establishment directed to rectify deficiencies
Based on the findings, officials issued an Improvement Notice directing the establishment to address the deficiencies and strengthen its food safety and hygiene practices.
The warehouse scored 68 out of 74, or 92%, in the hygiene assessment conducted during the inspection.
