Three die, Class 10 student among victims, after crane collapses into well in Bhupalpally

HYDERABAD: Three people, including a Class 10 student, died and another was critically injured after a crane used to clean an agricultural well collapsed in Jayashankar Bhupalpally district on March 14, police said.
The incident occurred in Korikishala village when two brothers were removing silt from their agricultural well with the help of a crane. A 60-year-old man later joined them during the work.
Police said the crane bucket used to remove mud from the well was heavy. To increase the load and pull up the silt more effectively, the three men sat on the crane positioned above the well.
When they felt additional weight was required, they called a 15-year-old boy who was passing by on the road.
The boy had just returned home after writing his Class 10 examination. “They asked him to sit on the crane for some time to add weight, and the boy agreed,” a police official said.
However, the crane lost balance due to the excessive load and collapsed into the well. All four persons fell into the well along with the crane.
Two men, aged 50 and 60, and the Class 10 student died in the incident. Another man sustained serious injuries and is undergoing treatment, police said.
The crane owner escaped unhurt. Police said further investigation is under way.
