ACB probes Bheem Reddy benamis, skips court production
HYDERABAD: Developments in the disproportionate assets case against Deputy Superintendent of Police Sankireddy Bheem Reddy have triggered discussion within the police department. The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) is probing preliminary evidence that he registered assets in the names of benamis.
Benami links under scrutiny through handwritten records
The ACB is advancing the inquiry based on details written in the accused’s own handwriting. These records reportedly list properties and the names under which they were registered. Officials have identified more than ten such suspected benamis.
Investigators plan to summon these individuals and record statements. They will examine how the properties were acquired and the sources of funds to establish whether they acted as benamis for Bheem Reddy.
Links to former public representative under probe
Officials are also examining a former public representative from Manikonda. Preliminary evidence suggests financial dealings between him and Bheem Reddy.
The two are believed to have developed close ties when Bheem Reddy served as Station House Officer at Rayadurgam police station while the leader was a sarpanch in the same area. Authorities suspect large financial transactions between them and are probing the angle.
A woman is also suspected to be part of the benami network, and the inquiry is proceeding in that direction.
Hospitalisation cited; notice issued instead of arrest
The ACB did not produce Bheem Reddy before a magistrate, drawing attention. Typically, an accused is presented in court within 24 hours of arrest.
Unofficial information suggests he developed severe anxiety when ACB officials reached his residence on Thursday morning. His blood pressure reportedly increased, and he was shifted to a hospital later that night.
As his condition did not stabilise, officials issued an arrest notice instead of producing him in court. Such use of notices in ACB cases is rare, and the development has become a point of discussion.
