Hyderabad model Bhavitha Mandava leads Chanel show in New York

HYDERABAD: Hyderabad-born model Bhavitha Mandava is drawing global attention after leading the opening walk at Chanel’s Metiers d’Art 2026 show in New York.
Young architect who turned model in the US
Bhavitha completed her bachelor’s degree in architecture from Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University Hyderabad (JNTUH) before moving to the United States for a master’s programme in interactive design and media.
During her stay in New York, an unexpected encounter changed her career path. While she was waiting for a train at a subway station, French–Belgian designer Matthieu Blazy approached her and asked if she would consider modelling. Though she had no prior experience, she agreed. In 2024, Blazy offered her a modelling opportunity, marking her sudden entry into the industry.
Two weeks later, she walked for Italian luxury fashion house Bottega Veneta at its Spring/Summer 2025 show. Standing nearly six feet tall, Bhavitha impressed the designers with her runway presence, which led to more international assignments, including projects with Dior. She has since appeared at fashion weeks in New York, Paris, Milan and London.
Opening walk at Chanel earns global attention
Bhavitha recently secured one of the most high profile slots in the industry the opening walk at Chanel’s Métiers d’Art 2026 show in New York. Chanel returned to New York for the first time since 2018, raising the show’s visibility.
The opening walk is considered crucial as it sets the tone for the entire presentation. Bhavitha became the first Indian model to open this prestigious show, attracting international media interest. The video of her walk went viral in India, especially because she is a Telugu woman from Hyderabad.
Chanel had earlier featured her in its Spring 2026 show, but this was her first time leading the runway. She described the opportunity as “a sentimentally special moment”, adding that she is balancing modelling assignments with higher studies and a regular job in the US.
Her parents and friends said they were delighted by her rapid progress in the global fashion industry.
