Bhatti Vikramarka promises Rohith Vemula Act in Telangana

HYDERABAD: Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka Mallu on Saturday said the State government would introduce the Rohith Vemula Act at the earliest.
Bhatti Vikramarka met members of the Justice for Rohith Vemula Campaign Committee at Praja Bhavan. He said Rahul Gandhi had written to Chief Minister Revanth Reddy urging the introduction of the legislation.
The Deputy Chief Minister told the committee that the people’s government would work towards bringing the Rohith Vemula Act after consultations with the Chief Minister.
Members of the campaign committee submitted a draft of the Rohith Vemula Act prepared in Karnataka. They urged the Telangana government to enact a similar law.
The committee also sought a transparent inquiry into the Rohith Vemula case and justice for Rohith. They requested relief for 50 students and two teachers against whom non-bailable cases were registered at the university after Rohith’s death. They also pressed for withdrawal of those cases.
The meeting was attended by representatives from Karnataka and members of the ‘Justice for Rohith Vemula’ movement from Hyderabad, including academics from the University of Hyderabad and senior advocates.
