Bharathnagar residents urge GHMC to repair open gym equipment at Sarvepalli Radhakrishna Park

Bharathnagar Park Open Gym Repairs

HYDERABAD: Residents of Bharathnagar Colony in Kukatpally have asked the Zonal Commissioner of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC), Kukatpally Circle, to repair the outdoor fitness equipment at Sarvepalli Radhakrishna Municipal Park and install protective mesh fencing to ensure user safety.

The Bharathnagar Colony Residents’ Welfare Association (RWA), led by President Dr. P. Nagi Reddy, described the poor condition of the open gym equipment. Residents of all ages use the gym, including men, women, and senior citizens.

Furthermore, the association said harsh weather has damaged the equipment. Five seats are missing from different machines. One side of the Air Walker’s foot stoving is broken and needs repair. Several other machines also need urgent attention.

Additionally, the RWA said the equipment needs regular greasing or oiling because it is exposed to heat and rain. This maintenance would reduce friction noise and keep the machines working smoothly. “The Open Gym in the Sarvepalli Radhakrishna Municipal Park is used daily by men, women, and others in our colony. The gym needs maintenance because it is open to the weather,” said Nagi Reddy. The association asked GHMC to send an official to assess and estimate the maintenance and repairs needed as soon as possible.

Meanwhile, residents also raised safety concerns about the primary school ground next to the park. The RWA said children playing cricket in the school ground often hit balls into the open gym area. Some gym users and walkers have been injured by these balls. “It has become very dangerous for gym users and walkers,” the letter warned.

To address this, residents requested that a 4 to 5 foot high mesh fence be installed along the entire compound wall, including over the gate between the school ground and the open gym and walking path. The association urged the Zonal Commissioner to act quickly on both requests to keep park users safe and protect the well-being of the community.
