Hyderabad Takes Green Energy Leap As Bhagyanagar Gas Signs Cbg Deal With Reliance, Gail

HYDERABAD: Bhagyanagar Gas Ltd has signed a Tripartite Agreement (TPA) with Reliance Industries Ltd and GAIL (India) Ltd to facilitate the offtake of Compressed Bio Gas (CBG) for Hyderabad.

The agreement, signed on August 16, 2026, will help integrate CBG into Hyderabad’s city gas distribution network.

Agreement to boost CBG blending

The agreement is expected to support higher CBG blending under the CBG-CGD Synchronisation Scheme. The national scheme aims to connect biogas and CBG producers with city gas distribution networks.

GAIL has been tasked with implementing the scheme and supplying biogas and CBG to city gas distribution entities.

Bhagyanagar Gas Ltd, a joint venture of GAIL and Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd, operates Hyderabad’s city gas distribution network.

Push for cleaner fuel

The agreement will help increase CBG use in Hyderabad and support the shift towards cleaner fuels.

Under the CBG-CGD Synchronisation Scheme, CBG producers can supply gas to nearby city gas distribution entities through cascades or pipeline injection, subject to technical and quality standards.
