Warangal Congress rift widens as MLA complains against minister

WARANGAL: Internal rifts in the Congress have resurfaced in Warangal, with Warangal West MLA Nayini Rajender Reddy complaining to the party leadership against Forest Minister Konda Surekha.
Reddy is learnt to have spoken to Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) president Mahesh Kumar Goud over phone, objecting to the Minister’s decision to appoint two members to the Bhadrakali Temple Trust without consulting him.
“Forest Minister Konda Surekha is taking unilateral decisions and this will not augur well for the Congress party,” Reddy reportedly told the TPCC chief.
Rift over Konda family’s influence
Factionalism continues to trouble the Congress in the erstwhile Warangal district, with several MLAs openly opposing Surekha and her husband, former legislator Konda Murali.
In June, MLAs from the district had taken their grievances to All India Congress Committee (AICC) in-charge Meenakshi Natarajan, alleging that the Konda family was overshadowing them in local affairs. They also claimed that the couple interfered in matters beyond their constituencies and took unilateral decisions.
Comments against MLAs deepen row
The rift widened further after Murali, during Rahul Gandhi’s birthday celebrations, allegedly called Station Ghanpur MLA Kadiyam Srihari and Parakal MLA Revuri Prakash Reddy “traitors.” The remarks led to demands from the MLAs for strict action against the couple.
For months, the Kondas have been at loggerheads with other Congress legislators from Warangal over a range of issues, signalling a continuing divide within the party.
