Bhadrachalam MLA Performs Skin Grafting Surgery
BHADRACHALAM: A complex skin grafting surgery was successfully performed at the Bhadrachalam Area Hospital, giving a new lease of life to a 28-year-old man who had suffered severe burn injuries in an electric shock accident.
Marapa Bhaskar, a resident of Sudibaka village in Venkatapuram mandal of Mulugu district, suffered an accidental electric shock about six months ago. Nearly 60 per cent of his body was burnt, leaving him in a critical condition.
Doctors at private hospitals in Hyderabad reportedly told the family that treatment would cost between ₹20 lakh and ₹30 lakh. Unable to afford the expenses, Bhaskar’s family approached Bhadrachalam MLA and general surgeon Tellam Venkata Rao two months ago. Arrangements were then made for his treatment at the Bhadrachalam Area Hospital.
Four-hour operation completed successfully
On Tuesday, Venkata Rao personally joined the medical team and carried out a four-hour skin grafting surgery on Bhaskar.
He said skin grafting involves removing healthy skin from one part of the body and transplanting it to the burnt area, describing the procedure as a form of plastic surgery.
Bhaskar’s right arm had been extensively damaged and was amputated up to the elbow to save his life.
The surgical team included doctors B. Devaraj, Thati Mallesh, Nikhita and Kaundinya, along with hospital staff.
Patient recovering, family thanks medical team
Area Hospital Medical Superintendent Y. Rajasekhar Reddy said Bhaskar is recovering well after the surgery.
Bhaskar’s parents thanked MLA Tellam Venkata Rao and the medical team for giving their son a new lease of life.
