Bhadrachalam Godavari drowning leaves two dead, three missing

BHADRACHALAM: Two youths died and three remain missing after five engineering students were swept away in the Godavari river near Kunavaram in Bhadradri Kothagudem district on Friday.

Seven students studying engineering at SRM College in Amaravati had entered the river for a bath. Police said five of them were swept away after they misjudged the river’s depth, while two managed to reach the bank safely.

Bodies of two students recovered; search continues

Local residents launched a search using boats soon after noticing the incident. The bodies of Charugundla Sreekar and Podicheti Abhiram, both from Bhadrachalam, were recovered.

Search operations are underway to trace Goka Teja and Navdeep, both from Uyyuru, and Pasham Satish Kumar from Madanapalle.

Minister orders intensified rescue efforts after incident

Minister Tummala Nageswara Rao expressed shock over the incident and conveyed condolences to the families of the victims. He directed district officials to intensify search operations.

He also instructed the revenue and police departments to take steps to prevent such incidents in the Godavari river basin in future.
