Dashcam Video Sparks Debate on Reckless Driving on Bengaluru-Hyderabad Highway
HYDERABAD: A dashcam video showing a near collision on the Bengaluru–Hyderabad highway has reignited a nationwide debate on reckless driving and highway safety. The incident occurred around 04.30 IST on October 23 and was captured by a car’s dashboard camera.
The driver, who shared the footage on X (formerly Twitter), alleged that a speeding private bus forced him into a dangerous situation that nearly led to a crash with a truck. “Yesterday at 4.30 am, I narrowly missed an accident due to the careless driving of a private travel bus on Bangalore to Hyderabad road. Fortunately, I didn’t panic. One wrong turn would’ve cost our lives,” he wrote.
Social media reaction and divided opinions
The post, which went viral soon after being uploaded, drew thousands of reactions and divided opinions from users. Many expressed relief and admiration for the driver’s composure. “That near miss sounds like a horror movie you survived with a smile and a sigh,” one user commented.
Others questioned the driver’s own lane discipline, pointing out that maintaining sufficient distance from vehicles ahead is crucial. “You are right, but you should also keep at least 250 metres distance from the vehicle in front,” another user advised.
Reckless buses, slow trucks, and systemic issues
Some users defended the bus driver, arguing that slow-moving trucks in the right lane often force buses to overtake from the left. “Nothing wrong with the bus driving. He indicated. If we have to blame the bus for overtaking on the left, then we need to get the slow-moving trucks off the right lane,” a user remarked.
The video has once again highlighted long-standing issues on Indian highways—poor lane discipline, speeding by private operators, and lack of enforcement. Road safety experts have repeatedly urged authorities to implement stricter monitoring and awareness measures on national highways to curb such incidents.
