Pedestrians Urge Hyderabad Traffic Police To Remove Barricades At Begumpet Zebra Crossings

Hyderabad: Citizens have raised concerns over closed medians at zebra crossings on Begumpet Road near Begumpet Police Station and Maharishi Girls College and School. The barricades are forcing pedestrians, including students and residents from nearby areas like Rasoolpura and Shyamlal, to walk long distances or risk crossing at the same spot without safe access.

Speaking to Hyderabad Mail, a concerned citizen who wished to remain anonymous said, “Pedestrians are forced to walk to far places to cross the road. Many are risking their lives to cross the road where two medians are closed at zebra crossings near Begumpet PS and Maharishi Girls College.”

He added, “People from Rasoolpura, especially women, are crossing here with great difficulty. There’s been no response from Hyderabad Traffic Police.”

On social media platform ‘X’ (formerly Twitter), a user named Rusty highlighted the issue, posting: “Pedestrians’ plight – two medians closed at zebra crossing at Begumpet Road: 1) Begumpet PS 2) Maharishi Girls College & School. @HYDTP please remove barriers.”

In a related concern, a commercial pilot also flagged pedestrian safety and enforcement of traffic rules in the city. Addressing Hyderabad Police Commissioner C.V. Anand on social media, he questioned the lack of stop line enforcement at traffic signals.

The concern read as, “I regularly stop at the pedestrian signal in front of Care Hospital, Banjara Hills Road No. 1, but I have to stop at the side of the road. If I stop anywhere near the middle before the stop line, I risk being hit from behind. Only at the NIMS Hospital signal do people stop properly due to the presence of traffic cameras.” He further asked, “Can we spread awareness about stopping before the stop line at signals?”

Citizens are urging Hyderabad Traffic Police to act promptly by removing the barricades and ensuring safer road crossings for pedestrians, especially in high-footfall areas near schools, hospitals, and residential zones.
