Residents express frustration over flexis & banners on Begumpet Roads

Listen to Story

Begumpet: Residents of Begumpet have expressed growing concern over the proliferation of political flexis and banners along Begumpet Airport Road, especially on the occasion of political leader Rahul Gandhi’s arrival. They claim the oversized banners are posing a significant danger to commuters. Despite several complaints and requests from the public, the banners remain in place, frustrating local residents.

The issue was highlighted by an X user, Rusty, who posted, “Flex on Begumpet road posing danger for commuters @CommissionrGHMC, @Comm_HYDRAA, @ZC_Secunderabad.”

Another resident, Sanghamitra Malik, shared a similar concern, stating, “We appeal to the government to stop wasting public money on these oversized cutouts along several roads. They are making our already poor road infrastructure look even more shabby and are a danger to drivers of two, three, and four-wheelers.”

Speaking with Hyderabad Mail, Rusty, a local resident who wished to remain anonymous, explained his concerns further, “These flexis are a serious threat to commuters. What if these banners fall onto the commuters? Such incidents could lead to accidents, injuries, and even fatalities. I urge the authorities to take immediate action and ensure that these banners do not jeopardize the safety of daily commuters.”

This situation comes despite the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation’s (GHMC) recent announcement of a ban on unauthorised posters, wall writings, cutouts, and flex banners across the city. The ban, which was introduced by former GHMC Commissioner Amrapali Kata on September 27, 2024, aims to preserve the city’s aesthetic appeal and maintain cleanliness. The new directive applies to both public and private establishments, with strict penalties for any violations.

As of now, however, residents are urging the authorities to enforce the ban effectively, ensuring that dangerous and unsightly flexis and banners are removed from key roads like Begumpet to prevent further hazards.
