BC bandh halts buses at JBS, MGBS; Diwali travellers stranded

Hyderabad : Bus services across Telangana came to a halt on Friday amid the BC bandh, stranding hundreds of passengers at major bus terminals, including the Jubilee Bus Station (JBS) in Secunderabad and the Mahatma Gandhi Bus Station (MGBS) in Hyderabad.
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Etela Rajender staged a protest on the road, sitting in demonstration against the state government. Following the bandh, buses at JBS and MGBS remained confined to depots and did not operate to districts.
With the Diwali festival coinciding with the weekend, large crowds of passengers had gathered at the bus stations to travel to their hometowns. Many complained that they were unaware of the bandh and had to wait for several hours with families, children and elderly relatives.
Travellers heading to Karimnagar, Nizamabad, Warangal, Vijayawada, Khammam, Siddipet, Suryapet and Nalgonda reported severe inconvenience as buses failed to arrive.
Taking advantage of the situation, several cab drivers charged exorbitant fares. Stranded passengers urged the Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TSRTC) to resume services immediately.
