Over 100 Bauhinia trees felled without permission on Hyderabad road

HYDERABAD: More than 100 Bauhinia trees were recently cut along the stretch between Nanakramguda toll gate and Gachibowli flyover by the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA). Residents and environmentalists have raised concerns, as reported by TOI.
Forest department officials said HMDA felled the trees without permission. “We inspected the site and spoke with the site engineer. The department removed trees on one side of the road to widen it. Stubs of the cut trunks are still visible. They did not get our approval,” said Ravi Kumar, deputy range officer.
The felling appears recent, with stubs and tree remains lying along the roadside. Kumar said the forest department has stopped the work. “We are assessing the damage and will penalise the metropolitan authority,” he added.
Environmentalists said the felled trees likely came from a compensatory plantation carried out during earlier infrastructure work.
