Hyderabad Police Commissioner Urges Bankers to Stay Alert Against Cyber Frauds

HYDERABAD: Bank employees play a critical role in protecting citizens from cybercrime, Hyderabad Police Commissioner VC Sajjanar said on Tuesday.
In a post on X, he said bankers, as custodians of public savings, must act responsibly and alert police if they notice signs of customers being targeted by fraudsters.
He noted that victims of cyber frauds, particularly “digital arrest” and investment scams, often react by hastily withdrawing deposits or taking loans against gold.
Early warning by bankers can stop financial frauds
Sajjanar said such sudden financial decisions, coupled with unusual behaviour or visible anxiety, should raise suspicion among bank staff and prompt further inquiry.
“Especially when customers fall victim to digital arrests or investment scams, they often resort to hastily withdrawing their deposits or taking loans against gold,” he said.
Elderly and pensioners most vulnerable to scams
He stressed that bankers have a responsibility to safeguard vulnerable groups, including elderly customers and pensioners, from losing their lifetime savings to fraud.
“In particular, bankers bear the responsibility of ensuring that the elderly and pensioners do not lose their lifelong earnings to the illusions spun by fraudsters,” he added.
Public urged to report suspicious activity immediately
The commissioner urged immediate reporting of suspicious transactions to police by dialling 1930 or 100.
He also called on the public to remain vigilant and follow police advisories to avoid falling prey to cybercriminals.
“Only when bankers, police, and the public coordinate with awareness can the construction of a cybercrime-free society become possible,” Sajjanar said.
