Congress panel seeks EC action against Bandi Sanjay for MCC breach in Jubilee Hills

HYDERABAD: Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) has lodged a complaint with the Election Commission of India (ECI) alleging multiple violations of the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) by Bandi Sanjay Kumar, Minister of State for Home Affairs, during a campaign meeting in Borabanda Division under the Jubilee Hills Assembly Constituency.
In a letter dated November 7, 2025, addressed to Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, TPCC Election Commission Coordination Committee chairman P. Rajesh Kumar said that Bandi Sanjay used “derogatory and abusive language” against Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy and made “appeals for votes on religious grounds,” both of which violate provisions of the MCC and the Representation of the People Act, 1951.
Derogatory remarks and communal appeal alleged
According to the complaint, during a speech at Site-3 in Borabanda on November 6, 2025, Bandi Sanjay made objectionable comments about the Chief Minister, linking his ancestry and religion in a manner that, the Congress said, could provoke communal tension. The TPCC also cited portions of his speech where he reportedly appealed to “Hindus to vote for the BJP” and suggested that “Muslims could vote for Congress or others,” in alleged contravention of Section 123(3) of the Representation of the People Act, which prohibits seeking votes on religious lines.
Inducement charge and demand for action
The Congress leader further alleged that Bandi Sanjay encouraged voters to “accept ₹20,000 per vote from others but cast their vote for the BJP candidate,” which, he said, amounted to inducement under Section 123(1)(A) of the RPA.
The complaint included links to video evidence of the alleged remarks and inducements, calling on the ECI to issue an immediate notice to Bandi Sanjay, restrain him from further campaigning in the Jubilee Hills byelection, and deploy observers and videography teams to monitor the constituency.
Rajesh Kumar also urged the Commission to recommend Bandi Sanjay’s removal from the Union Cabinet, arguing that his statements “could trigger communal unrest and undermine the integrity of the electoral process.”
